Purple Heron

Ardea purpurea

The bird is a Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea), locally called Lal Kank. This large, slender wading bird features dark reddish-brown and grey plumage, a streaked rufous neck, and a long yellow bill. In Bangladesh, it is a resident waterbird commonly found wading or hiding among tall reeds and dense vegetation in wetlands, haors, beels, and rivers nationwide.
