Blue-eared Kingfisher

Alcedo meninting

The bird is a Blue-eared Kingfisher (Alcedo meninting), locally called Nil-kan machedranga. It features deep blue upperparts, bright azure-blue spots on its crown and wings, and rich rufous underparts, distinguished from the common kingfisher by its blue ear-coverts. In Bangladesh, this shy resident can be seen along shaded forest streams within mixed evergreen forests across Sylhet and Chittagong divisions.
