Black-winged Stilt

Himantopus himantopus

The bird is a Black-winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus), locally called Lal-paya Lengta. This elegant wader is easily recognized by its striking black-and-white plumage, thin black bill, and exceptionally long, bright pinkish-red legs. In Bangladesh, it is a common resident and winter migratory bird found wading in shallow wetlands, haors, beels, and coastal salt pans nationwide.
