Indian Pitta

Pitta brachyura

The bird is an Indian Pitta (Pitta brachyura), locally called Deshi-shorongo. This colorful, stocky ground-dweller features brilliant green upperparts, bright blue wing patches, a rich buff underside, and a striking crimson-red lower belly and vent. In Bangladesh, it is a summer breeding migratory bird commonly found foraging in dense undergrowth, bamboo thickets, and leafy forests nationwide, especially in Dhaka, Sylhet, and Khulna.
