Firethroat

Calliope pectardens

The bird is a Firethroat (Calliope pectardens), locally called Agnigola. This rare, near-threatened passerine features dark slaty-blue upperparts, a black mask, and a fiery, glowing orange-red throat and breast bordered by a black band. In Bangladesh, this elusive winter migratory bird can be seen hidden inside dense reed beds and thick streamside undergrowth within the Tanguar Haor region, Hazarikhil Wildlife Sanctuary, and occasionally the Sundarbans.
