Phayre's Leaf Monkey (Trachypithecus phayrei), locally known in Bangladesh as the Chasma Bandor (Spectacled Monkey), is an endangered primate species. Distinct Appearance: They feature white rings around their eyes that resemble eyeglasses and white patches around their mouth, set against a dark grey-brown coat. Infants are born with bright orange fur before turning grey after a few months. Habitat in Sreemangal: They primarily inhabit dense, evergreen tree canopies and bamboo groves, such as those in Lawachara National Park in Sreemangal. They are shy, arboreal animals that rarely descend to the ground. Diet & Behavior: As leaf-eaters (folivores), young leaves, fruits, and shoots make up the majority of their diet. They live in social troops led by a dominant male. Conservation Status: Listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List due to severe habitat loss and forest fragmentation.
