The Common Jezebel (Delias eucharis) is a medium-sized Pierid butterfly native to South and Southeast Asia, renowned for its striking, brightly colored wings and toxic chemical defenses. Key Characteristics Aposematic Coloration: The underside of its wings features bright yellow, prominent black veining, and a distinct margin of deep red spots. This vivid patterning serves as a warning signal to predators. Toxicity: Because its caterpillars feed on parasitic mistletoes (such as Loranthus species), the butterfly sequesters toxic compounds that make it highly distasteful to birds and other predators. Flight Behavior: Confident in its unpalatability, it flies with a distinct, slow, fluttering motion high near tree canopies, rarely darting away in fear. Habitat & Range: Widespread across gardens, urban parks, and woodland margins throughout South Asia.
